There will be no extension in filing of Income Tax Return, as stated by Tarun Bajaj, Revenue Secretary during 46th GST Council Meeting.
He stated that the ITR filing is going on very smoothly. On 31st December, 2021 by 3 pm 5.62 crore Income Tax Returns have already been filed in total and today itself, people have filed more than 20 lacs returns, which is the highest and in the last 1 hour, 3.44 lac Income Tax Returns have been filed. So if the returns have been filed in such numbers, there is no reason with anyone to claim for extension of dates. He also compared the number of Income Tax Returns filed till 30th December, 2022 with Income Tax Returns filed till last year. Last year, till this date 4.83 ITRs were filed and this year, 5.4 ITRs have been filed. So more than 60 lacs ITRs have been filed on the same day as compared to the last year, when the last year also the closing date was the same.
